Do Sharks Sleep?

Sharks do not fall asleep like humans do. They have active and restful periods; in the restful period the shark’s brain is less active while it remains swimming. Some sharks have spiracles; a small opening behind their eyes, that forces water across the shark’s gills so the shark can be still when it rests. Other sharks do need to swim constantly to keep water moving over their gills and their bodies.
